As students of Turn-About Ranch your teenagers will start the
Horsemanship program by demonstrating that they are responsible enough
to work with a horse. They have little knowledge of the impact that daily
interactions with horses will have on their life if they will let it. Their
relationship with their horse will affect the manner in which they
approach and live every day. Spending time with their horse will teach
them many lessons in life such as the value of patience, the need to be
focused, connected and committed. He will show them the effects of
attitude upon their own life and the lives of those whom they care about.
Their horse will provide an avenue to heal parts of themselves that have
been hurt or wounded. He will help them see and understand relationships
and the effects their thoughts, feelings and behaviors have on others.
Working with their horse inspires different feelings and personal
integrity. He not only will promote these and other personal
understandings, but help them develop and increase their own self
awareness.
Hopefully these and other insights they receive from working with their
horse will result in constructive change in thinking and the possibility of
new behaviors that they will carry with them through life. Their
interactions with a 1,200 pound animal will be rewarding and productive
in helping them to develop appropriate relationships with other human
beings, leading to self awareness which changes destructive behavior.
There are three different levels of this Turn-About Ranch Horsemanship
program. Basic, Riding, and Refining. As a student they will not only need
to know and demonstrate their knowledge, but also their skills in working
with their horse to move from one level to the next. Their final
demonstration of knowledge and skills will be for their parents at
graduation. They will also need to follow instructions closely and learn
the different skills required if they are to complete this. Safety for them
and their horse and those working with them is the primary concern. They
will need to learn all the safety rules and always remain alert and pay
attention to all the instructions they are given. If they do this, their work
with their horse will be some of the most memorable and enjoyable
experiences they have here at Turn-About Ranch. Our hope is that they get
as much insight and knowledge as they can. We think it will have a
positive influence in their lives forever.
