When your teenager comes to Turn-About Ranch, a Primary Counselor
isassigned to work with them, and a weekly parent phone session is
scheduled for you as parents. On a regular weekly basis you discuss with
your Primary Counselor, the progress and concerns of your son or
daughter. These phone sessions help the entire family be more involved,
implement any information relating to past behavior, and help your child
start changing negative habits.
Approximately midway through the program, parents will attend a
"Mid-Term" visit involving parenting skills and discussions, and
counseling sessions with your teenager and counselor. Mid-Terms are
three days long and are very productive.
The goal of the Parent Program is to assist parents in developing skills
to handle their troubled teenager. In six sessions we cover such topics
as being involved with your child's life, communication and the
importance of family values. Also during our
sessions, a good parent support group of friends is developed. We
laugh, cry and share experiences together that help you to know there are
others in your shoes going through some of the same things.
Also, at the end of each student's stay, you will come back for
"Graduation." Again you will be involved in parent classes and counseling
sessions for three days. Goals and rules are discussed and decided upon,
so the family can return home with a "game
plan" to support the student and deal with concerns that may arise.
Turn-About's desire is to provide lasting changes in your son's or
daughter's life. To do this, it is necessary to involve the entire
family in a support program designed to integrate new behaviors when
your
student returns home. We want to support your teenager and keep him or
her in a Turn-About mode to carry throughout their life.
